Roque Nublo is found in the Rural Park del Nublo. The park has a unique habitat which makes it home to a many endemic species. The surrounding forrestation plays a very important role in the replenishment of the aquifer (a bed of permeable rock that both stores and transmutes water), and the conservation of the forest floor. The forest also represents one of the most characteristic systems of the Canary Islands, that of the Pine. The Rural Park del Nublo, aside of the megalith Roque Nublo which receives thousands of visitors each year, is also home to other important structures such as the Caldera of the basin at Tejeda

Pico de las Nieves

Continuing on this driving excursion the next stage of driving should also take around an hour. Continue along the GC600 then take the GC130 which will take higher up to the peak. Remember you will also be driving bavk down the road, the way you came in order to continue the driving excursion. The name Pico de las Nieves, means quite literally, Snowy Peak, and with a height of 1949 metres above sea level it is the highest peak on the island of Gran Canaria. It received itīs name in the 17th century after the construction of a number of wells that were used to store snow, that was then taken to Las Palmas upon which it was then commercialized and used to conserve food or eaten as ice cream.

Degollada Becerra Interpretation Centre

This leg of the driving excursion should be about 30 minutes. When you reach the bottom of the GC130 take a right and continue north. This Centre is to be found between the Cruz de Tejeda and Llanos de la Pez. It is the interpretation centre for the Biosphere Reserve. From this point you will be able to see the rocks of Bentayga and El Nublo.

Tejeda

The village of Tejeda is located a few kilometres below the Cruz de Tejeda and this will give you the feeling that the driving excursion is doubling back on itself. From the Cruz de Tejeda follow the road signs for Tejeda. Take your time visiting this picturesque village, known for itīs blossoming almond trees and local produce made from the almonds they produce. From among the whitewashed houses in Tejeda the parish church of Nuestra Seņora del Soccoro (Our Lady of Help) stands out. One of them will take you across a ravine that covers the whole of the natural reserve called Los Tilos and the other will take you along the general road that runs alongside the Fontanales. This stage of the driving excursion is likely to need an hours driving. Moya is a small village with some very important buildings, such as the church of Nuestra Seņora de Candelaria, the Heredad de Aguas and the Tomás Morales House Museum.
