Anchieta (1534 - 1597)
Anchieta is nothing short of an apostle of Brazil.
Anchieta was Born in the front plaza of the lagoon where he lived until early adolescence. At this stage of his life he went to study at Coimbra and entered the Society of Jesus. Later Anchieta moved to Brazil.
In Piratininga (1554) Anchieta started the school of Sao Paulo, Brazil's first college and the very beginning of the city of Sao Paulo
Anchieta was also instrumental in helping the governor "Mem de Sa" to found the city of Rio de Janeiro, he was also the author of the first grammar book in the tupí language.
