Easter in Gran Canaria

March - April

Many Canarians head for the coast during Easter week and you will notice that many of the smaller beaches in Gran Canaria are packed full with tents and caravans.

Of course Easter week sees the universally celebrated religious Easter festivities.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

During the week before Easter you will be able to see long and solemn processions where religious icons and statues are paraded through the streets of many towns and villages. In Castillo del Romeral the statue is carried at the head of what looks like a funeral procession along the seafront to the strains of a very sad sounding, small brass ensemble, accompanied by a solitary drum.
