However there are certain shopping guidelines for you to remember. Shopping in the south of Gran Canaria, where the tourists tend to flock, is always more expensive which is why if you have the desire to shopping and the opportunity, you really should go shopping in Las Palmas (the capital city of Gran Canaria) which is home to several shopping centres and shopping streets like Triana or Mesa y Lopez a shopping area, where you will find many high street shops, including Marks and Spencer's and of course El Corte Inglés. Not to forget Las Arenas shopping centre, El Muelle shopping centre,or Siete Palmas. shopping centre,

If you are shopping for something more local while you are on holiday in Gran Canaria, including crafts or food than visit the markets section where you will find a list of market towns and the market days.

With regards to the shopping times in gran Canaria, it is a general rule of thumb that everything is closed on Sundays, except the supermarkets that are to be found in the major tourist areas of Maspalomas, Puerto Rico and Playa del Inglés. While many of the smaller shops all over the island of Gran Canaria, still observe the traditional siesta, many of the bigger shops are open 10am to 8pm. There are exceptions, but these usually centre around major holidays and Christmas. The shops that do observe siesta will usually be closed between 13.30 and 16.30 although again this can depend. It is often worth asking a resident for more detailed information if you are looking for something in particular.

All over the island of Gran Canaria, while you are shopping, you are usually not very far away from a cash machine. All of the shopping centres and ahopping areas in Gran Canaria, will have at least one, but be warned, you need to check very carefully before accepting cash, because the commissions vary from one bank to another. (A good rule of thumb, is, if you are teking cash from a cash machine, take the daily maximum. Even though you may not intend to spend it all, it works out cheaper because you end up paying fewer charges). Be very careful at the same time, to guard your PIN and your cash. If you decide to use a card as payment for your shopping in Gran Canaria, make sure you have your passport with you, as most of the shops will ask you for identification, and will not process the sale unless you provide it. It is not possible to provide you with detailed information regarding individual shopping centres on the website, nor is it possible to list all the shopping centres or shopping areas on the island of Gran Canaria, but we have tried to cover some of the, major shopping centres, and shopping areas, and hope you enjoy your shopping experience in Gran Canaria.
