Mundo Aborigen has been placed in a protected national park which gives it a setting of unrivalled beauty. Mundo Aborigen covers 110,000 square metres and recently has been declared a place of cultural, social and historic interest by the Canarian Government.
Mundo Aborigen has an adjoining kiosk but this is now closed and there are no shops or shows, so remember to bring your own food and drink with you.
The shows that were available in the
beginning, that detailed "an aboriginal life" have since given way to a carefully planned
itinerary which will guide you carefully through all the stages of the "ancient Guanche Life"
including their social hierarchy, the world of magic and their beliefs, their religion and burial rites. You will also discover some of their most deeply rooted social customs, different types of dwellings which will include caves like "Cueva Pintada" (another attraction that Gran Canaria has to offer you are interested in the history of Gran Canaria). The itinerary at Mundo Aborigen also takes you through ornamentation, manual skills, agriculture, food and live animals.
Mundo Aborigen presents all of this using more than 100 life sized figures which depict the aborigines set amongst a large variety of endemic flora which only goes to make your visit all the more special. To make the visit to Mundo Aborigen even more special and memorable, an archaeological museum has been created which includes shows and demonstrations of islands sports, including the "la Lucha Canaria" which is still very much alive and prospering and is shown on television and has a huge Canarian following. For a truly interesting day out Mundo Aborigen> is well worth a visit.
